VOLYA GROUP NON-PROFIT
Olga and Volya

VOLYA GROUP and "Center for Research, Collection, and Restoration of Material and Nonmaterial Belarusian Culture” was formed as a non-profit educational charitable organization in November of 2010 by Volya Dzemka and Olga Sukhover.
The organization’s mission is to educate the people of the Pacific Northwest, as well as across the United States about the Belarusian folk culture, and help preserve Belarusian folk songs by collecting, recording, studying and performing them, both in the United States and worldwide.
The group strives to accomplish its mission by performing at community organized festivals and cultural events in the United States while also conducting ethnographic expeditions to Belarus to collect and record Belarusian folk songs in their authentic form. The group maintains an audio collection of authentic Belarusian Folk Songs as well as a library of published material related to Belarusian folk art, history and culture. The collected material is translated into English to make it available to a broader audience.
VOLYA's Ethic Costumes Collection is one of the largest private collections of authentic Belarusian folk costumes outside of Belarus and numbers 234 items, representing all regions of the country and spanning from the late 19th century to the 1940s. VOLYA's expanded Ukrainian collection, which numbers 17 costumes and 106 items, was created in the wake of Russia’s de facto occupation of Belarus and military aggression in Ukraine.
